Gardener, mastermind of ‘Geng Dinesh,’ fined RM22,500

MANJUNG: A gardener who is also the leader of ‘Geng Dinesh’ was fined RM22,500 by the Magistrate’s Court after pleading guilty to 11 charges involving theft, vandalism, and trespassing.

A Dinesh Kumar, 24, pleaded guilty after all charges were read out to him.

The man was charged with committing vandalism by smashing the front windshield of a car, causing damages amounting to around RM500, at a house in Taman Raja Muda Musa, Sitiawan, at 7 a.m. on Sept 27.

The charge was brought under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which carries a prison sentence of one to five years, a fine, or both upon conviction.

Dinesh was also charged with four counts of stealing items from vehicles, including shoes, handbags, cardholders, and a gold bar card, from four homes around Sitiawan between 6 a.m. on Sept 4 and 8 a.m. on Sept 27.

The charges were brought under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of seven years, a fine, or both upon conviction.

He was also charged with six counts of trespassing into six residences around Sitiawan with the intent to commit an illegal act between 1:10 a.m. on Aug 24 and 12:35 a.m. on Sept 16, under Section 447 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of six months or a maximum fine of RM3,000, or both, if convicted.

The prosecution was conducted by Prosecuting Officer Nurjihan Jaya, while the accused was represented by Nur Shaqira Ibrahim from the National Legal Aid Foundation.

Magistrate Fakhrul Razzi Abd Hamid ordered a prison sentence of three to 12 months if Dinesh fails to pay the fine.
