RM499 is the ticket price to East Malaysia for the four days leading up to the festive season

The government is continuing its subsidy for one-way economy class flight tickets exceeding RM499 from Peninsular Malaysia to Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan in conjunction with Christmas, Chinese New Year, Aidilfitri, Kaamatan, and Gawai.

The Ministry of Transport hopes that the RM499 maximum price cap will help reduce the financial burden on travelers returning to their hometowns.

However, the price does not include taxes and fees, according to the statement.

“The government will cover the price difference between the original flight ticket price and the maximum price,” it said.

The fixed fare implementation will begin at 12:01 a.m. on December 6, 2024, for the following dates:

  • Christmas 2024: December 21, 22, 23, and 24, 2024
  • Chinese New Year 2025: January 25, 26, 27, and 28, 2025
  • Aidilfitri 2025: March 27, 28, 29, and 30, 2025
  • Kaamatan 2025: May 26, 27, 28, and 29, 2025
  • Gawai 2025: May 28, 29, 30, and 31, 2025
  • Christmas 2025: December 21, 22, 23, and 24, 2025

Tickets can be purchased through the airline’s website and are subject to the following terms and conditions:

  • Date changes or flight exchanges are not allowed and are only valid for the date/flight indicated on the ticket.
  • Name changes are not permitted, and purchased flight tickets are non-refundable.

“In this regard, there may be some variations to the improved terms and conditions offered by certain airlines.

“However, consumers will still be protected under the Malaysian Aviation Consumer Protection Code,” it said.

Last year, the government provided subsidies for one-way economy class flight tickets exceeding RM599 from Peninsular Malaysia to Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan for three days before the Christmas celebration.
