Salvage Operation KD Pendekar : Ship Successfully Refloated
KD PENDEKAR was successfully refloated at 4:38 PM on October 12, 2024.
The ship is currently undergoing initial repairs before being handed back to the Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM).
The salvage operation of KD PENDEKAR has essentially been completed despite some challenges. The location where the ship sank is now confirmed to be safe, and there are no remnants of ammunition or explosives that could threaten the safety of the maritime community, particularly those frequently using the waters.
The future of the over 45-year-old ship will be decided in conjunction with the “Phasing In – Phasing Out” plan for decommissioning old ships still in service, in line with the Royal Malaysian Navy’s (TLDM) 15to5 Transformation Plan.
The cause and factors leading to the sinking of KD PENDEKAR are still under investigation by the Board of Inquiry.
