Sivarraajh in political wilderness, desperate for political alliance

KUALA LUMPUR 4 Julai – Former MIC leader C. Sivarraajh seems to be in political wilderness following his departure from MIC, the largest Indian based political party in the country.

The former MIC vice-president is also seen as desperate in trying to land a political party to keep his short-lived political journey alive.

“Sivarraajh obtained his senatorship recently after being recommended by MIC president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran.

“His senatorship was supported by Barisan Nasional Chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. This was further approved by the bigger Pakatan Harapan Chairman and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“Only after this process did Sivarraajh get his senate post. Now after he was sacked from the MIC central working committee and he himself quit the party, he runs to Perikatan Nasional (PN). This is for his political survival. It can be seen as a desperate move but its survival that matters,” said a political analyst who declined to be named.

Yesterday, Sivarraajh admitted that he met Bersatu Secretary General Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, twice after ditching MIC. Bersatu is the anchor party in the opposition Perikatan Nasional pact. He however claimed that the conversation with Hamzah was not regarding his membership into the coalition but to discuss the plight of Malaysian Indians, should Perikatan come to power in the future.

“This is mind boggling because Sivarraajh seems to have forgotten who gave him the senate position. Who made him what he is today. It is all MIC and Pakatan leadership. Now he runs to Perikatan hoping that they would offer some high-ranking position for himself,” said the analyst.

This move by Sivarraajh is also seen as a slap on the face of Zahid and Anwar himself.

“Sivarraajh was groomed by Zahid and Anwar to tackle Vigneswaran. The two leaders cannot keep MIC and Vigneswaran in check, so they created Sivarraajh but now he seems to be growing into a political monster wanting a host,” said an MIC insider on the condition of anonymity.

It must be noted that Sivarraajh withdrew from contesting the Padang Serai parliamentary constituency by-election after Pakatan Harapan struck a pact with Barisan Nasional. Political circles reveal that he was promised a senate position as a reward from withdrawing his candidacy in the race.

“But his candidacy itself came from MIC. He was not picked out of the blue to contest the seat. The seat was originally slated for MCA but MIC made a deal which allowed its candidate to contest the seat.

“In that sense, Sivarraajh got the senate post because of MIC. If you ask me, he should resign as a senator after leaving the party. That would be gentlemanly. But to keep the senatorship and go begging to the opposition for a position is not very gentlemanly, in fact it borders being a traitor,” said the MIC insider. — Xklusif
