Woman who rammed into UiTM student never received mental health treatment in Terengganu

KUALA TERENGGANU: The female driver, believed to be mentally ill, who rammed into two motorcycles, causing the deaths of three Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Dungun Campus students last Wednesday, was found to have never received treatment at any health facility in the state.
Terengganu Health Director Dr. Kasemani Embong said that checks were conducted, and it was found that the 49-year-old woman had no medical records, either at hospitals or health clinics.
“However, we (Terengganu State Health Department) are not certain if she (the woman) had received treatment in other places or states,” he said when contacted today.
He further advised the public with family members experiencing mental health issues to come forward and seek treatment.
“The public needs to change their mentality regarding mental illness. Don’t be ashamed to seek treatment.
Family members and the community must support those (with mental illness) to receive proper treatment and recover as usual,” he said.
The accident on Jalan Pantai Sura, Dungun, resulted in the deaths of Khairil Anwar Jamaludin, 20, Muhammad Akmal Md Tukirin, 25, and Ku Adib Aizad Ku Azmi, 20, who were riding Yamaha LC135 and Yamaha Y15 motorcycles and died at the scene.
Muhammad Amar Danish Mohammad Ridhuan, 20, sustained a hip injury and is currently receiving treatment at Dungun Hospital.
The female driver involved is currently in remand until this Sunday for further investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
