MIC sends in big gun to Penang, Saravanan weaves his magic

KUALA LUMPUR, 8 Aug – MIC the largest Indian-based political party in the country has sent its big gun to Penang in the form of party deputy president Datuk Seri M Saravanan to woo voters for the state polls scheduled on Saturday.
Known for his charismatic oratory skills, the former Human Resources Minister arrived in Penang on Sunday and has been a watched figure since his arrival at Penang, once dubbed the pearl of the orient.
He started with some meet-the-people sessions, walkabouts, and smaller gatherings behind closed doors and without doubt, he has stirred the interest of Indians in the state at the polls.
The visit has also ignited interest and excitement among the Indians on the importance of voting at the polls.
Delivering his rousing address at MIC’s main operations room at Bagan Dalam last night, the MIC deputy president and Tapah MP stressed the importance for voters to vote for moderate politics as it was the best way to create a just society and forge a united progressive democratic country.
He added that most voters find the moderate policies upheld by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Madani government more practical.
Saravanan also took time to campaign for Sundarajoo Somu (Perai) and Kumaran Krishnan @ Calvin (Bagan Dalam).
The MIC deputy president also joined a walkabout for Bertam PH/BN candidate and former minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican.
The absence of DAP’s P. Ramasamy and team has forced MIC to fill in the void left by the former deputy chief minister who has barely touched the ground since the list of DAP candidates was announced.
It must be noted that Ramasamy was dropped by DAP as a candidate for this poll.
Though, MIC led by Saravanan has filled in the void more needs to be done to woo Indian voters in Penang, according to analysts.
Out of the 40 seats in Penang, 33 are held by the PH ruling coalition with DAP winning 19 seats, PKR (12 seats) and Amanah (2 seats) at the last polls in 2018.
The PH coalition thus commands a supermajority in the state and with the formation of the unity government with BN, PH is expected to win the state comfortably come Saturday. — Xklusif
